Albuquerque, NM, March 15, 2004 – Alternative Link announced today that
Rick Enright, Director, and Dr. Jeffrey S. Sollins, Founder of Bridges
in Medicine, will speak at the Consumer-Driven Pharmacy Benefits Conference
in Philadelphia on March 25th. Their subject will be the use of herbal
and over-the-counter (OTC) medications, supported by ABC codes, in consumer
choice pharmacy models.
The presentation will be given at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel beginning
at 5 p.m. The two-day conference, sponsored by Global Business Research,
will bring together many of the nation’s leading experts on consumer-directed
health strategies and pharmacy benefit management.
“As the movement toward consumer-driven health programs gains momentum, the
demand for broader choices in medications will continue to escalate,” says
Enright. “Developing consumer-driven pharmacy models that support the use
of herbals and OTC medications will give health plans and employers a head
start on meeting this predictable demand.”
In their presentation, Enright and Dr. Sollins will discuss the rationale
for integrative healthcare and compare the costs and effectiveness of
prescription and non-prescription options. They will also draw upon case
studies from Dr. Sollins’ program offered through Lovelace Sandia Health
System’s senior plan which grew from several MedicarePlus Choice plans
in New Mexico.
Alternative Link developed the only comprehensive code set for integrative
healthcare. The codes reflect chiropractic, massage and acupuncture
practices, as well as care delivered by nurses, holistic physicians and
others. Alternative Link has been influential in promoting the use of ABC
codes in healthcare research, management and commerce. In addition to
supporting insurance billing, the codes improve tracking, analysis and
reporting of care, so the best practices of conventional, complementary
and alternative care can be made available to consumers.
A copy of the presentation will be available on Alternative Link’s web
site at
